More Than a Meal
"Go in peace, be warmed and be fed..."James 2:16
The Weekend Lunch program has served the needs of downtown Macon since the mid-1990s. What started as an opportunity to help feed the homeless, hungry, and less fortunate in a safe and enjoyable environment has since grown into a program that delivers far more than a meal to our community.
Meal Serving Times
Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 12 PM
Meals are served at Jones Chapel at Christ Church on Walnut Street Lane.
How to Volunteer
Weekend Lunch operates through teams of volunteers that serve together 4-6 times during the year. Our teams consist of compassionate people from various churches, religious organizations, community groups, and individual organizations. Guided by the team leader, each volunteer group provides an average of 260 meals per weekend in downtown Macon.
Additional Ways to Serve
Alongside our mission to provide nourishing meals, Weekend Lunch’s volunteers and partners equip guests with hygiene kits, crocheted hats, and scarves. During cold months, warm clothes and blankets are also distributed. We even provide guests the opportunity to obtain information on health and safety throughout the year.

Weekend Lunch Board of Directors
Hal Brickle, Executive Director
Dr. Hal Brickle, EdD is the executive director of Weekend Lunch and is a committed, compassionate presence in downtown Macon. A native of Middle, Georgia, Hal has journeyed across the state since he was 18 years old, pursuing education and shaping his career as an educational instructor to students with special needs. He has served in ministry positions for many years and has welcomed opportunities to help those less fortunate. His return to Macon to take care of family led him to begin serving the hungry through Christ Church’s Weekend Lunch program.
Food preparation and community service is my passion. Creating a delicious meal and putting it into the hands of those hungry and less fortunate is my calling. As director, I work alongside teams of volunteers with a similar mission which provides me with enormous fulfillment. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve those less fortunate and blessed to be a part of such a beautiful ministry.
